New
Technologies-glimpses of a bright new Future (1)
Visions
of the future, but with us now.
We
might have seen glimpses of the future already - they have
been shown on our screens, and in our newspapers and magazines.
It's just a short step - with the right inspiration and
unity, we'll be having:
-
non-polluting, (and thankfully) more silent cars.
- flying
cars
The first will be in showrooms near you, very soon!
-
solar and other sustainable energy sources.
- many
other technical innovations that will improve our lives
and our planet's health.
- Vertical
Farms - an "Agricultural Revolution",
whose time has come, right now!
Vertical
Farms
-
high rise "vertical
farms" an idea developed by Dr.
Dickson Despommier, a professor of environmental
sciences and microbiology at Columbia University. These
will be self-sustaining
eco-systems with no need for long-haul transport, in
our cities.
A TV documentary here in the UK has already described
these farms, and existing farmers were asked whether
they would be willing to try farming in them - there
was an almost universal enthusiasm for the idea. The
self-sustaining organic nature of it is just too attractive
to not try, plus any crop or vegetable can be grown
as the necessary environment can be created for each.
The benefits are too great to ignore, listed below.
It
will enable us to:
- liberate
a great deal of land presently used by large industrial
non-organic farms, which the VFs will be replacing.
This land can be used to create:
- forests
to consume our CO2!
- National
Parks and Game Reserves/ very large Safari Parks**
- business
parks for all the new businesses using the latest
hi-tech technologies.
- fun
or recreational parks of all types, to inspire us,
and to relax and holiday in.
- freedom
to roam!
- anything
you can think of!
- go
"fowards to nature",
not "back to nature" as so many seem to wish
for, which means regression and all it's concomitant
miseries and hellishness.
**
We can introduce animals in the developed
world and benefit from their presence, to enrich our
lives and enthrall us and our children. The animals
will need to be fenced in, of course.
- get
rid of Zoos, which will be great for all concerned-certainly
the poor inmates. The Zoos and Safari Parks (who have
the expertise already) should be the organisations to
make the necessary transformations.
Calling all animal liberationists. Please find work
if you don't have any, and stop terrorising our researchers
and scientists who are trying to provide the answers
and medical cures we need.
We all need to make sacrifices sometimes!
Their animals are treated humanely compared to some
countries.
In fact, put your energies and attention onto some
of the countries whose practices to wildlife are abhorent
in the extreme --skinning the animals alive for their
fur, and other terrrible practices too gastly to mention.
They really need your attention much much more.
I am a lover of all animals and wildlife, but humans
do come first, plus it will benefit animals in the
long run as well.
The
advantages of Vertical Farming are as follows:
-
Year-round
crop production
-
Elimination
of agricultural runoff
-
Significant
reduction of fossil fuels for farm machines and crop
transportion
-
Better
use of abandoned or unused properties
-
No
weather related crop failures
-
Improved sustainability for urban centers
-
Conversion
of black or gray water to drinking water
-
Provision of energy back to the grid via methane generation
-
Creation
of new urban employment opportunities
-
Reduction
of infection transmission risks
-
Control
of vermin by using restaurant waste for methane generation

Farm website, the best hope for creating a wonderful
new future for our world!
Thankyou Dr. Despommier for this inspirational answer
to so many problems that we have created for ourselves.
We now just need to get it trialled ASAP, and if it works,
let's get cracking with creating the wonderful future
that is waiting for us-Forwards to Nature!

new technologies awaiitng us >

Here
are some of the beautiful and futuristic designs
created by architects from around the world.
Build a 21-story circular greenhouse, says Dr. Dickson Despommier,
an environmental science professor at Columbia University,
and it can be as productive as 588 acres of land - growing,
say, 12 million heads of lettuce a year.
