A
New United Nations, a new approach to Aid, and foreign affairs
A whole re-organisation of the UN rule book is
in order.
New regulations:
- No
more cowtowing to tin-pot dictators.
- Give
the "malevolent" dictators a much lesser vote,
or none at all, but they can stay and listen and learn
from the good.
- Benevolent
dictators should get an equal vote, if they are doing
their best to make progress for the greatest number
of their people.
- Less
"political correctness"- some "spades"
need to be called "spades", though when the
best interests of the many are in mind, sensitivity
should be used.
Iran
is a democracy (flawed, maybe, but a democracy nevertheless)
and must therefore be respected.
And we in the West need to have more self-respect!
Saudi
Arabia and most other Arab countries are not democracies,
but most have now come to terms with our way of life. Progress
is being made on all fronts.
Hamas-all
great on paper-they have been doing good for their people
in Gaza, social work, education, etc.. BUT.. they seek the
violent destruction of Israel. Not such a good idea, and
counter - productive... in the extreme.
If they (and Iran, their inspiration and paymasters) were
to open their hand to Israel (and the USA) instead of sending
their rockets and young gullible suicide bombers, Israel
would almost certainly reciprocate with their open
hand, and so almost definitely would the USA.
.
Israel hasn't been bombing the West Bank and/or Fatah leaders
or members (who believe in the peaceful solution to the
conflict- the two state solution or the Arab
Peace Initiative) has it?
I wonder why not?
Indeed,
if a long time ago, the Palestinians had forsaken their
guns and bombs, and had just marched into Israel with their
placards demanding a settlement, sat down in the streets,
and conducted a PEACEFUL campaign, they could have won a
peaceful settlement decades ago, I'm pretty sure.
If Israel had done any great violence to them, the whole
world (even the USA, surely) would have been "up in
arms" themselves!
Some
examples of peaceful protesting and action producing "transformational"
change:
- The
"People Power Revolution" in the Phillipines
defeated their dictator President
Marcos. PEACEFULLY-except
for when the army fired on the people. It was an inspiration
for the whole world.
- The
Serbian "People's Power" revolt got rid of
Milosevic (peacefully). He was just like Hilter in whipping
up nationalistic fervour and hatred that led to the
terrible breakup of Yugoslavia, and leading his people
to war against all but themselves and their kind.
-
Gandhi, the best example of all, through a campaign
of peaceful mass resistance, basically
defeated the might of the British Empire (or at least,
hastened it's demise).
Aid
- All
aid should be dependant on good governance and use of
the resources given, and for it to be targeted direnctly
to those in need.
- Bad
governance should mean that it will be very closely
monitored, and targeted directly:
-
by the UN, or
-
whichever national/international agency is involved.
These
two conditions for acceptance in the UN might be a way to
guide these leaders into a more democratic, or at least
"benevolent" mindset.
We have to accept that not all peoples or countries are
ready for "democracy".
Why
not wipe out all unbearable debts (or as much as possible):
international, national and maybe even personal, and start
with a clean slate? Banks routinely take losses on debts,
and the nation's tax payers are certainly losing billions
upon billions into the Banks' coffers, and to what good
effect so far?
I'm sure it can be done, somehow, if the whole world gets
it's act together.
China has already bought billions of the US's national Debt,
so they have got faith in them.
That's all we really need right now - to regain faith in
ourselves, our financial institutions and their regulators.
Plus, for us all to start with a fresh vision of the future
for ourselves, and our world, together with as much unity
as can be mustered.
All
nations should keep the good and valuable traditions, but
throw out the bad old ways/habits-it's a new world and new
thinking and attitudes are needed everywhere - or we'll
be retreating back to the old ways and bad habits.
Never throw out the Baby with the bath water, as the Baby
is too precious.
But the bath water, and even the bath, can go.
Everything needs replacing...eventually.
But
you cannot replace the Baby!
