A Rapidly Changing World

Our world is changing, seemingly at an ever increasing pace (though it probably isn't any faster than during the industrial revolution or at any time since).

As we are living in a "global economy", which is a GOOD thing, we need new ways of behaving, and new respect for other nations and their feelings.

This is the case above all when it comes to the feelings of the Islamic nations, who are quite understandably disgusted by some of our habits and so-called Culture (pornography, drunkenness, etc.)

We need to change this in deference to their sensibilities, and for our own dignity.

It'll be good for us too-it is not healthy or wise, and prevents wealth accumulation, except for the pornographers and those of their ilk.
This does not mean we have to stop entirely our drinking of alcohol, or any other of our "adult" forms of entertainment, as Islamists must also respect our way of life.
All we need to do is be moderate, and keep adult things behind closed doors where they have always belonged-for good reason.

The Internet
The most influencial invention since the printing press, and which has a similar function and impact-the dissemination of ideas, to all who can partake of it.

It is a wonderful tool, but it really needs to be cleaned up, in the following way:

The rule of thumb:

  • Every country should have the right to insist that any law that holds in their "real world" should hold in "cyberspace".
  • Every
    • "webmaster" or website "owner"
    • host (service provider or server)
should be made responsible under the law for all the material held:
    • on their respective websites
    • on their respective webservers
There should be an international agreement to enact and enforce these rules.

GOOGLE, and all those of a similar persuasion, must stop thinking that anything goes- that it can be a free for all (except in China, eh! Google HMMM! - bloody hypocrites! You are becoming an unthinking monster, like others that could be named).

Actions and words have power and consequences and Hate and Disgust should have no place, except (maybe) only in totally secure, private Domains.
Freedom of speech is important to us, but with freedom comes responsibility, and freedom should not mean "licence".

All nations should keep their good and valuable traditions, but get rid of the bad old ways and habits.
Never throw out the Baby with the Bath Water, as the Baby is too precious.
But the Bath Water and even the Bath can go. It's always good to get the latest goods and technologies.

Mobile phones
The move over to mobile phones entirely, and having no landline at all, which seems to be more and more popular especially with the young, has meant that it can be almost impossible to trace people who change their phones.
Those (mostly young people) who have interent presences on Facebook or other social networking sites, probably won't find this a problem, but those who don't may have real problems tracing old friends and family.

I reckon there should be directories made available by all service providers, and for them all to be searchable from one "central" database/directory.
