A Classless Society (2)

A New Britain, with new and renewed ideas, new attitudes and thinking, new pride, faith, hope and better charities (ones where more money goes to the intended recipients).

The Great British "confrontational politics" (WHICH WE ALL SEEM CONVINCED IS THE ONLY WAY!) in their "monkey-" House of Commons, is old thinking-bring in the new!
Left and Right fighting to be heard, insults hurled, boos and cheers, is arrogant, and hinders truth seeking and solution finding.

How can they think this is the best way of getting things done sensibly?
Surely we are all intelligent enough to know that confrontation just antagonises and leads to polarisation of positions?

Of course, reason can prevail even after a bruising, and minds can be changed..but it is surely better to do it gently and reasonably.

What if a business were run like this?? It would soon be out of business, wouldn't it?

Europe (and all nations, religions, races and tribes) can teach us a lot, as we can teach them a lot, in return. Proportional Representation- for instance. Again all voices heard and considered-it's only their right, of any persuasion.

How about a "renewal" of Britain, both symbolic and actual?

  • A new House of Commons, bright, modern and as round as possible and therefore egalitarian, like the UN chamber, or in some way like the Scottish parliamentary chamber( seen in the column at right >).
More on the UN, which also could do with significant changes!
  • A new political party of the centre, made up of "New Labour" and "One Nation" Tories (who don't belong in the right wing Tory Party-they belong in the middle), and the Lib-Dems, if they wish. We just have to persuade the "One Nation Tories" to leave the Tory party-they don't belong there, like New Labour don't belong in the "old" Labour Party.
Give the new party a new name - an inclusive name, say "the New One Nation Working Party"? A bit of a mouthful, but you get the idea. Symbolism is a powerful thing.
  • A new name for our old country.
    • Great? No longer really, but still very good to live in...though improvements can certainly be made!
    • United? Well, not so united any more, and we may become even more fragmented. If the Scots, Welsh or Irish wish to leave us...why not? (Not that I recommend it to them, our close ties are very beneficial to all, and most of our leaders are Scots anyway. Just please stop the confrontational attitudes and antogonising and patronising-we're all in this together, and need mutual respect.
    • Kingdom? Well let's face it, the monarchy is not what it was, and nor should it be. We need not abolish it, but it would be good if they were to work harder for their pay, with less play! And not remain so aloof.
    • I would like to suggest a symbolic name that doesn't throw the Baby out with the Bath water, "NEW BRITAIN".
      • Britain is our historic identity and as long as we are united with the Scots, Welsh and (Northern) Irish, it would be good to keep it, as maintaining one's fundamental identity is very important.
      • what better way to define "a rebirth" with new ideas of unity, and new attitudes and thinking?
      • if the island off Papua New Guinea doesn't like this, we can ask them nicley to name their island the "Island of New Britain", or "New Britain Isle/Island". I'm sure they'll not be too fussed-it was after all named after our island.
      • Or maybe WE can call ourselves "New British Isles", though this doesn't sound as "meaty" or "beefy"! as "New Britain", and we do like being Beefy, don't we?!
      • Of course the country as a whole should make suggestions and agree on a new name, if it is seen as a good thing.

A proposal for our political future
Political Parties as such I reckon, should eventually disappear, as they are no longer really in our best interests. Our elected (independant) politicians should just "project manage" the projects/policies that we the people want to put into operation, through electronic voting. Accepted, the transition to such a process will be difficult, and it will have to "evolve", probably, somehow.
But we could start thinking about it already, couldn't we?

L
ike with any company, a worker (at his or her work-place) can often have great insight and ideas to make the company more efficient and cost effective. Workers should have representatives on the Board Meetings to put their case, whatever it might be.

We are all stake-holders in the company and in the country.
Let's start having that right for all!

ASAP!

Proportional representation, in a new House/Chamber, light and fresh and modern, not old and fusty.
A "Round Table" (our ancestors knew a thing or two, even if only mythical) or chamber, where all parties or voices can be heard in equality. A modern House of Commons, which is symbolic of our world.
The Scottish Parliamentary Chamber (as seen at the top of the right side of this page) is a pretty good example of this, though it feels more like a classroom, really, a really nice classroom, of course! Beneath that is a proposed redesign of the intereior of the present House of Commons-better than before, but it doesn't have the same feel, does it?
There's no contest as to which one I would rather work in, even if it does remind me of school. The other somehow feels like an old Roman circus.

Let the House of Lords remain old and fusty-that would be appropriate.
Unless we change their name and get rid of their Titles.

These are all part of the Class System, and have no real place in a modern, democtratic system. People can still, and should, be recognised for their good works, but not as part of this antiquated and un-democratic system, even if it is only residual.

How about calling them the "House of Elders". Any other suggestions?

MBE? Empire? what empire?

Never throw out the Baby with the Bath water, as the Baby is too precious.
But the bath water and even the bath can go. Good models replace old, worn out, leaky ones.

Our Buildings
Tear up (some of) the draconian and non-progressive rules and regulations of keeping our ancient buildings as they were hundreds of years ago. Keep some as museums, or for those rich enough to afford to make them energy efficient and pay for the horrendous maintenance costs.
Whatever, they must be made energy efficient.

The rest of us who are not so wealthy need to have affordable, modern, energy efficent, eco-friendly houses only. The technology is out there, we just need our "authorities" to put it to work! Or build them ourselves-if we can afford to. Government can help in this by offering appropriate grants.
