Suggestions
for the government (1)
Please stop throwing
Tax-Payer's money about:
-
stop throwing money down drains which-ever
they are, unless they are
doing what they should. There is plenty of money around
if you look for it, and free it up from wherever it's
stuck:
- supporting
whole families who (mostly seem to) do nothing
but "bite the hand that feeds them".
- stuck
in tax havens or off-shore accounts, doing nothing
good
-
set
up at least one "people's" Bank, maybe the
Post Office, as has already been
suggested-it will give renewed life to a treasured
organisation.
-
as
part of the "NEW DEAL"
** (as you seemingly
are already with President Barak Obama, and hopefully
other heads of Government) start
building:
-
a prototype "vertical
farm" to prove they work, and
then build more and more. Dr Despommier will need
to be consulted of course, but I'm sure he'll
be happy to oblige.
- other
Modernisation or Maintenance projects. For heaven's
sakes there is need of it on this country, and
there is plentiful local labour available!
This will not only revive the economy and give
work to many, many people, but it will be grabbing
the future right away and show the world what
we can do-that we're not a tired, worn out former
"big puncher" on the world scene.
More importantly, it will go an awfully long way
to solving persistant ecological and environmental
problems, PLUS provide a bright new future for
us all.
When the rest of the world follow suit, and we'll
all be (almost) in "nirvana".
Not really possible of course, but better than
what we have now or had in the past. We must stop
harking back to some imagined paradise, even the
(young) natives of the Amazon jungle and of other
"primitive" peoples around the world
want the benefits of what we have - and they are
especially hungry for KNOWLEDGE.
They need not lose their identity. Just adapt
it to modern living.
The
National Health Service
Why
do so many people persist with the myth that it is free?
It is not. We all pay for this National Insurance, and it
surely should be treated like any "commercial"
insurance. There should be conditions:
- If
we do not live a healthy (enough) lifestyle, eg. over-consume
alcohol, drugs, or food, we must either:
-
be compelled to follow a regime to correct this
lack of willpower
- be
left to last to be offered treatment
- or
some other sanction should be applied
- If
anyone doesn't like these conditions-then they can always
get their own private health insurance.
- "Gastric
Bypasses" should not be paid for on the NHS, while
real diseases are neglected-this really
is unacceptable!
- Anybody
who engages in sports where injury is very likely, should
not be treated on the NHS. They should take out private
insurance just like we do for flying, or driving our
cars. Most likely, most do anyway, of course, as most
are thoughtful people.
This
has all been proposed
and is now being enacted but we need to make sure that
it is.
We need to protect our most treasured and admired institution,
our NHS.
Unemployment
benefit
- All
long-term unemployed should be compelled to work for
their "benefit" (in both meanings of the phrase),
as it'll be to their benefit - for their dignity, sense
of purpose, values and their contribution to their community
and country.
An agreement/contract between the Job Centre and the
"client" should be drawn up, which should
state that they will provide at least, say:
-
half a day's work (daily, of a normal working week)
- or
a few full days to clean the streets, help out in
hospitals, or do maintenance jobs for the elderly.
Anything, anywhere where extra help is needed, in
whichever way their talents can best be of service.
This way they will regain their dignity, in no time,
I'm sure.
-
The rest of the time they can look for other full-time
employment. Which will not be too difficult I'm
sure, once they have got into the swing of things
and realised the benefits of work and commitment.
They will most likely find job offers made to them
anyway, if they are conscientious.****
- If
after losing a job, a certain period can be devoted
solely to job searching-say 3 to 6 months? Then the
same should apply to them as for the long-term unemployed.
Apart from the wasted money, the person loses all sense
of worth and becomes depressed and therefore even less
likely to find employement, as depression means a closing
In and down of the self. It is not a good place to be.
They need to be helped if they cannot help themselves.
- In
this way there can be jobs for all, without having a
communist or authoritarian system.
It's all about being "stake-holders" in our
communities, our society, and in our country.
**
as Roosevelt did after the "Great Depression"
back
to where you were
****
The
more people work, the more wealth there'll be and therefore
the more jobs available-and of coures the reverse holds,
but in the opposite way - it's a mathematical equation.
Barak Obama was right when he said that America should
not be ashamed of it's wealth - or it's wealth-creating
abilities.
Just imagine where we (even
China!) all
would be without them, and some of us are still blaming
them for everything!!
